German Style Meatballs
Mom enjoyed German recipes to reflect on her heritage.
ingredients
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 1/4 cup beer
- 1/4 cup fine dry bread crumbs
- 1/2 tsp. salt and a dash of pepper
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 2 medium onions, sliced and separated into rings
- 2 Tbs. cooking oil
- 3 Tbsp. all purpose flour
- 1 tsp. instant beef bouillon granules
- 1 tsp. brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp dried thyme, crushed
- 1 cup beer
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tsp. vinegar
- 2 Tbsp. chopped parsley

In a large bowl combine egg, 1/4 cup beer, bread crumbs, salt, pepper. Add ground beef and mix well. Shape into 24 meatballs. Place meat balls in a single layer in a 15 x 10 baking pan. Bake in 350 degree oven 15 to 20 minutes. Drain off fat.

Meanwhile in a large saucepan cook onion in hot oil until tender, but not brown. Stir in flour, granules, brown sugar, thyme. Add 1 cup beer, water and vinegar all at once. Cook and stir until thick and bubbly (1 minute.) Stir in parsley.
