This is a great recipe for large group picnic. We do this in a turkey fryer pot outside and pour on the table for serving when done! Can be doubled easily.

ingredients

  • 3 Qts water
  • 1 12 oz bottle of beer
  • 1 tsp black peppercorns
  • 2 tsp Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 1/2 dozen ears of fresh corn, shucked,
  • silk removed and cut into 3" pieces
  • 1 head celery, cut into 1" pieces
  • 1 medium onion, peeled and cut into fourths
  • 7 Lbs. red potatoes, quartered if they are large
  • 2 Lbs. smoked sausage, cut in 1" pieces
  • 2 Lbs. shrimp, peeled and deveined

directions

Bring water and beer to a boil in a very large stockpot. Add peppercorns and Old Bay seasoning. add corn, celery, onions ans potatoes and cook until potatoes are almost done approximately 10 - 15 minutes. Add sausage and shrimp and cook 10 - 15 more minutes. Serve stew with or without cooking broth. If served without you may strain stew and spread picnic table with newspaper and dump strained stew over table for serving.
