Old-Fashioned Mac & Cheese

Sometimes only the classic will do. If you show it just a little bit of love, it will love you back with some incredibly rich flavors. This is my sister, Star’s, favorite !

  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni, cooked

  • 4 cups (16 ounces) shredded Cheddar cheese, divided

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1½ cups milk

  • ¾ teaspoon salt or to taste

  • ¼ teaspoon pepper or to taste

  • Paprika to give color to top

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.

  • Lightly grease a 2-quart baking dish. Layer in one-third of macaroni and sprinkle with 1½ cups cheese. Repeat layer again. Top with remaining macaroni. Reserve remaining 1 cup cheese.

  • Whisk together eggs, milk, salt and pepper until blended. Pour mixture over the macaroni.

  • Bake, covered, at 350°F for 45 minutes or until thoroughly heated.

  • Uncover and sprinkle with remaining cheese, then top with a good sprinkling of paprika to give color. Cover again. Allow to stand 10 minutes before serving.
