Grandmother Davis’ Thanksgiving and Christmas Dressing. Grandmother would fret for days making her dressing. When it came time to cut the turkey and serve plates, she would spend the first 10 minutes gnashing her teeth - saying “This dressing is too tight!”. Still to this day, I have no idea what she was talking about. It was always delicious.

ingredients

  • 2 cups Onion chopped
  • 2 cups Celery chopped
  • 6 cups cornbread (crumbled)
  • 3 cups white bread (crumbled)
  • 2 Tbsp. Poultry seasoning
  • 1 Tbsp. Celery seeds
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. Sage
  • 1 Tbsp. Salt
  • 3 eggs, well beaten
  • 2 or 3 cups Chicken broth (to moisten)

directions

  • 1

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  • 2

Cook onion and celery with butter in microwave until tender.

  • 3

Mix all ingredients well. Then add chicken broth until mushy. Mix well.

  • 4

Bake in a greased dish for 40 minutes or until golden brown.

notes

To save time, Onion and Celery can be cooked in the Microwave. Use a food processor to crumble the white bread and the cornbread.
