Apple -Cream Cheese Torte
Great dessert in the fall when apples are at their best - must be served first day!
ingredients
- CRUST:
- 1/2 cup margarine
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup flour
- FILLING:
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 3/4 teapoon cinnamon
- 6 cups tart apples, peeled and sliced
- 1/4 cup almonds, sliced - if desired

Cream together margarine, sugar and vanilla. Blend in flour; mix well. Pat dough onto bottom and about 1 inch up the sides of a 10 inch spring form pan. Crust will be very thin.

FILLING:

Cream together cream cheese and 1/4 cup sugar. Add egg and vanilla; beat until smooth. Pour into prepared spring form pan. Combine 1/3 cup sugar and cinnamon; toss apples with sugar/cinnamon mixture. Spoon or arrange over cream cheese layer; sprinkle with almonds if desired.

Bake a 450 degrees F for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 400 degrees F and continue baking for 35 minutes, until apples are tender. Cool before removing rim of pan. Serve immediatiely.
