Biscuits and beans casserole

This a fun to eat stick to the bones recipe. this has been with me for years. It’s an easy meal to make in the winter when you need a little warming up.

  • 1 package biscuit dough (10 count)

  • 1 pound ground beef

  • 1 small onion, chopped

  • 1 garlic clove, chopped

  • 1 (15oz) can pork and beans

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • ¼ teaspoon pepper

  • 1 cup barbecue sauce

  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, grated

  • In a skillet, cook beef over medium heat until no longer pink; remove beef and drain grease, leaving 1 tablespoon. sauté onion garlic for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the beef, beans, barbecue sauce, salt, pepper mix well. Bring to a boil. Transfer to a greased 2-qt. baking dish. Sprinkle cheese on top of meat and beans. Separate biscuits and arrange over cheese. Bake, uncovered, at 300 degrees F for 20 to 30 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown.

notes:

It's important to this dish that the meat mixture be very hot before adding the cheese and biscuits.
