Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds of fruit (peaches, strawberries & rhubarb, whatever), peeled, stoned, and sliced
  • 5 tablespoons sugar
  • A good splash balsamic vinegar
  • For the topping:
  • 4 ounces butter, chilled
  • 8 ounces self-rising flour (or all-purposed flour plus 1/2 t baking power)
  • 2 1/2 ounces sugar
  • A large pinch salt
  • 4 1/2 ounces buttermilk
  • A little sugar, for dusting
  • Vanilla ice cream
