The Perfect Margarita

The easiest margarita mix ever. Never again will you buy the bottled stuff!

  • 1 can lime-aid concentrate, softened

  • 2 cups tequila

  • 1½ cups triple sec (or Cointreau if you really love your friends)

  • 1 cup orange juice

  • about 4 cups cold water

  • 3 limes

  • In a 2-quart pitcher, combine the lime-aid concentrate, tequila, triple sec and orange juice. Stir to combine, then top off the pitcher with cold water and stir again.

  • Next slice the limes in half and squeeze their juice into the pitcher with your hands, or with a juicer if you have one. Watch out for the seeds! For extra flavor, I like to leave the squeezed limes in the pitcher with the mix.

  • Allow the mix to sit in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes so the flavors can blend, then serve straight up with a lime wedge, or blend over ice for the classic frozen margarita.

The Perfect Margarita

PREP TIME: 5 min

TOTAL TIME: 35 min

notes:

A variation on the classic: cut watermelon into cubes and freeze. Then use the frozen watermelon in place of ice in your frozen margarita. (Also add a tablespoon of sugar to the blender to cut the bitterness the watermelon gives off when frozen.)
