Overnight Broccoli and Ham Strata

ingredients

  • 1 loaf or 12 slices white bread, remove crusts
  • 1 lb chopped broccoli
  • 1/2 lb shredded cheese (pick your favorite)
  • 12 oz. (2 C.) diced cooked ham or Canadian bacon
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 1/2 C. milk
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire
  • 2 Tbsp caramelized onion
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne

    Dice the bread, cutting off the crusts, then set aside.

    In a buttered 9x13 baking dish, arrange layers of the bread cubes, 1/2 of the cheese, broccoli, onion, ham and then top with remaining cheese.

    Beat together the eggs, milk, mustard, Worcestershire, garlic and pepper until well blended. Pour evenly over the casserole, saturating the bread completely. Cover and refrigerate 12 hours or overnight. Bake at 325 to 350 degrees for 1 hour. Let stand for 15 minutes before serving.
