The Best Gingerbread Recipe
This is wonderful when served with warm orange marmalade and whipped cream. And probably nobody would complain if a little rum was thrown into the whipped cream. Or into the gingerbread, for that matter.
ingredients
- 2 c. flour
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 2 tsp. ground ginger
- 1 tsp. ground cloves
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 c. butter
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 c. molasses
- 1 c. water

Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees

Combine dry ingredients and set aside.

Cream sugar,and butter. Add eggs and liquid ingredients, then add dry ingredients.

Pour into greased baking pan. Be careful not to over- fill (1/2 to 2/3 of the way full). Place a pan under the oven rack to catch over flow)

Bake for 35 minutes. I have found it almost always takes at least 10 additional minutes to bake completely (do check it after 35 minutes though).
