Grandmother’s Swedish Coffee Bread

  • 8 cups flour
  • 2 1/2 cups lukewarm milk
  • 2 packets yeast
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 to 1 cup melted butter
  • 15-20 cardamon seeds, ground
  • 2 eggs (optional)

    Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup milk.

    Mix remaining milk, sugar, salt, butter, cardamon seeds and small amount of flour (and eggs) - beat until smooth.

    Add yeast and remaining flour beating with a spoon until smooth and firm.

    Knead until smooth.

    Let stand about 2 hours.

    Turn out on board and shape as you wish.

    L:et stand until it doubles in size.

    Bake in 375 degree oven for 15-20 minutes
