Swedish Red Lips Cookies

This is a traditional cookie recipe from Sweden.

  • 1 cup butter, softened

  • ½ cup sugar

  • 2 cups flour

  • ¾ cup red currant jelly or raspberry jam

  • Preheat oven to 375°

  • In a medium bowl, beat butter 30 seconds.

  • Beat in sugar until combined.

  • Beat in as much flour as you can stir in any remaining flour.

  • Shape dough into 1" balls.

  • Place balls 2" apart on an un-greased cookie sheet.

  • Press your thumb into the center of each ball to make an indentation.

  • Bake in a preheated oven about 12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.

  • Transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool.

  • Just before serving, fill each center with about 1 tsp of jelly.
