Abigail's Gingerbread Men
from Darreby and Michael
ingredients
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 sticks softened butter
- 1 egg
- 1 cup dark molasses
- 1 TBSP. vinegar
- 4 cups flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 8 heaping tsp. ginger
- 1 heaping tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves or allspice
- Pinch of cayenne pepper if you like it spicy
directions
- 1
Beat butter until creamy and slowly beat in sugar. Add egg, molasses and vinegar. Combine dry ingredients and add to butter mixture. Dough should be stiff and not too sticky; add flour as needed. (Depending on the weather and your aura and the sign of the moon, you may need to add a lot of flour before the dough stops being gooey.)
- 2
Refrigerate in two batches in plastic wrap. When cold, roll out pretty thin, cut with a cookie cutter and bake at 350° F. for 8 – 10 minutes.
notes
Note: Roll out directly on cookie sheet or best on parchment paper. The dough is often too soft to lift unbaked cookies. (Also note – if the dough gets hard to work with, sticky, etc. when you are cutting your cookies – put the sheet outside to get cold for a minute and it will stiffen right up.)
