Great to give away for Christmas.
- 1 Cup Sourdough starter
- 2 ounces poppy seeds
- 1 1/4 Cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/4 Cups brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 Cup butter
- 1/3 Cup unflavored yogurt
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 6 eggs
- 3 Cups All purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Combine the sourdough starter and the poppy seeds. Let stand at room temperature for at least 3 hours.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease four 6x3x2 inch pans.
Cream together the sugars and the butter. Add the yogurt, salt, vanilla and lemon juice and continue to cream until fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Combine the flour and the soda. Add half the poppy seed-sourdough mixture
to the liquid ingredients. Mix well. Add the flour-soda mixture and stir until combined. Add the remaining poppy seed-sourdough mixture, stir well.
Pour into the prepared pans and bake in the preheated oven for one hour or until
a cake tester comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes before turning out on rack to cool completely.
