- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/3 cups cold water

The difference between this and chocolate cake is that this one is not as sweet. It uses shortening and water instead of butter and milk.
