Stir-fried Pork and Celery
A tasty and crunchy Asian dish that is very easy and fast to prepare. Serve with hot boiled rice. I like to season it with some red hot chili paste (sambal oelek). Note! This recipe uses ground pork which is not the same as pork sausage. Pork sausage is seasoned, ground pork is not.
ingredients
- 2 - 3 celery stalks, sliced thin
- 1/4 C onion, diced
- 1 tsp freshly grated ginger
- 1 lb. ground pork – not pork sausage
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp rice wine
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tsp cornstarch dissolved into 2 t water
directions
Prepare the sauce by mixing the soy sauce, rice wine, sugar and hoisin sauce. Set aside. Heat the oil in a wok or large pan over medium high heat and add the onion and ginger. Cook for about 2 minutes. Add the pork and stir to keep the ground pork from forming big clumps. Pork should be the size of large crumbles. Once the pork is cooked add the sliced celery and mix well. Cook pork and celery mix for about 5 minutes. Celery should be cooked and barely soft. Add sauce and mix well cooking for about another minute. Add cornstarch dissolved in water to thicken and cook for about another minute. Serve on top of boiled rice.
notes
Use ground pork not pork sausage which is seasoned. Photo note: Crossing the Strait of Georgia on a hot day.
