Molasses Cookies
These cookies are so good. They’re crispy on the outside and chewy in the middle. I’ve been making them for over 30 years and they’re an all-time favorite. You’ll find like in our house they don’t last long.
ingredients
- 3/4 C shortening
- 1 C packed brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 C molasses
- 2 1/2 C flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground allspice
- 1 tsp ground nutmeg

In a mixing bowl, cream together shortening and brown sugar. Stir in egg and molasses and mix well. Fold in remaining ingredients and mix well. Cover and chill till firm (1-2 hours).

Preheat oven to 350F. Roll dough into small balls and roll in white sugar. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 9-10 minutes. Remove from sheet and place on paper to cool.
