Banana Nut Bread

Grammie’s favorite way to use overripe bananas.

  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 very ripe bananas
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts


Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 2 small loaf pans. Combine all dry ingredients in one bowl. Mash bananas in separate bowl, add wet ingredients and mix well. Combine wet and dry and mix on medium speed until moistened. Fold in walnuts. Pour into 2 small loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Recipe can be used to make cupcakes.
