Braised Brisket of Beef
ingredients
- 4-5 Lbs. First cut brisket
- 1/2 Cup flour
- Coarse salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
- Vegetable oil as needed
- 2 Large cloves of garlic, minced
- 2-3 Tbsp. cider vinegar
- 2-3 Tbsp. dark brown sugar
- 1 8Oz. can tomato sauce
- 2-3 Tbsp. Ketchup
- 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 3/4-1 Cup boiling water
- 2 Bay leaves
- 1/2-3/4 Tsp. Crushed dry thyme

Combine flour, salt and pepper.

Dredge meat in flour.

Heat oil in a large roasting or braising pan with cover.

Brown meat fat side down first, on both sides.

Spread the minced garlic over the top.

Pour the vinegar over the meat, letting it drip down into the pan.

Then add all the ingredients.

Bring to a slow boil, basting meat until all the ingredients are blended.

Cover and place in preheated 350 oven, to braise for 2-2 1/2 hours(Convection oven @325 needs less cooking time), until tender.

Baste with gravy occasionally, add a little water if needed.

Let meat stand 1/2 hour to cool before slicing across the grain.

*Cut up carrots and quartered red bliss potatoes may be added half way through cooking time.
