Chocolate Dream Cake
We always call it “Baptist Chocolate Cake” because the recipe came out of my first cookbook, which came from the First Baptist Church in Beeville, Texas.
ingredients
- 2 c. sifted flour
- 1/4 c. cocoa
- 2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. sour cream
- 1 c. (2 sticks) margarine
- 2 eggs, slightly beaten
- 1 c. water
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- Icing:
- 1/2 c. (1 stick) margarine
- 1 1b. powdered sugar (sifted)
- 3 1/2 T. cocoa
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/3 c. milk
- 2/3 c. chopped pecans

For cake, sift flour and sugar into mixing bowl, blend well. Bring to rapid boil in saucepan the margarine, water and cocoa. Pour over flour and sugar mixture. Mix well. Combine remaining ingredients and add all at once to batter; mixing well. Pour into sheet cake pan, bake at 400 for 20 minutes. Let cool while preparing frosting.

For frosting, combine margarine, cocoa and milk in saucepan; heat slowly and bring to boil. Add remaining ingredients; beat well and pour over cake while it is still warm. Leave cake in pan until ready to serve.
