Chaya Selesny's Sweet Challah
ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 3 packets yeast (1 strip)
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 Tbsp orange juice
- 1 cup oil
- 4 eggs (eggbeaters work too)
- 2 1/2 tsp salt
- 8 (to 9) cups flour
- Glaze:
- 1 egg yolk
- 1-2 Tbsp honey

Mix together first 3 ingredients in a warm bowl. Let sit for 2 minutes. Mix remaining ingredients as you go before adding flour. Add flour until dough is right consistency. Will be sticky.

Cover bowl with towel & keep covered until dough rises. Usually 2-3 depending on room temperature.

You will need more flour for rolling out dough. Braid. Brush glaze on top of challahs (you can add raisins, sesame seeds and/or poppy seeds).

Bake at 350° uncovered until tops brown (30-45 minutes).

Best served warm.
