Mary Liz's Beef Bourguignon

A hearty winter meal. Serves a good group of hungry family members.

ingredients

  • 1 lb stew beef or other cuts
  • approx. 1/2 c. flour
  • Montreal seasoning
  • Olive oil to cover dutch oven (pot)
  • Kitchen Bouquet
  • Soy sauce
  • Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 onion diced
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 5-8 bay leaves
  • 1 c. sliced mushrooms
  • approx 1/2 c. red wine
  • 8 large carrots, 1 inch pieces
  • 4 stalks of celery, 1 inch pieces
  • 4-5 diced potatoes Yukon gold are yummy

    Sprinkle Montreal seasoning on meat. Then dust with flour. Put meat in hot olive oil to brown, add onions, garlic, splash of soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Kitchen Bouquet and cook until browned. Add wine at any time.

    Place carrots, celery and potatoes in bottom of baking dish. Cover with the meat mixture and place in the oven at 350° for @ 1 hour. Check to see if vegetables are cooked to your liking. Or they can be cooked on the stove in a dutch oven with the meat on low for about an hour.
