You can use either bone in or boneless spare ribs.

ingredients

Spare Ribs
  • 1 1/2 to 2 Pounds spare ribs
  • 1 Tsp fine sea salt
  • 1/2 Tsp black pepper
  • 1 Medium onion chopped
Barbecue Sauce
  • 1 Tsp mustard
  • 2 Tsp soy sauce
  • 1/4 Cup vinegar
  • 1/4 Cup brown sugar
  • 1 Cup ketchup
  • 1 Cup water

directions

  • 1

    Preheat oven to 450°

  • 2

Place spare ribs in a baking dish with sides high enough to hold sauce. Salt and pepper the ribs on both sides and add the chopped onions to the top. Bake uncovered for 20 minutes.

  • 3

While the ribs are cooking make the sauce. Combine all the sauce ingredients in a pot and bring it to a boil. Boil for an additional 10 minutes, then remove from stove.

  • 4

After the ribs have cooked for 20 minutes, reduce the stove temperature to 350°.

  • 5

Remove the ribs from the oven. Slowly pour the sauce over the ribs, coating all the meat. Place ribs back into the oven and cook uncovered for an additional 2 hours, basting ribs occasionally if they are not covered by the sauce.

  • 6

Let ribs rest for 10 minutes before serving.

notes

* when using boneless spare ribs cut into 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick strips to allow the barbecue sauce to penetrate meat
