Fried Green Tomatoes
Double or triple this recipe as needed. Fried green tomatoes have a delicious tangy flavor to them, and are even better with buttermilk dressing or ranch dressing. Also excellent as a BLT sandwich with a twist! Just put between toasted bread spread with Hellmann’s mayonnaise, add bacon, lettuce and fried green tomatoes. Add a little powdered ranch dressing mix to the mayo to make it over the top... Yum! Or just serve as a side dish.
ingredients
- 1/4-cup cornmeal
- 1/4-teaspoon sugar
- 1/2-teaspoon salt
- Pinch cayenne pepper (Optional)
- 1 firm green tomato, sliced 1/2 inch thick
- Kosher salt
- Bacon fat from 5 slices of fried bacon
directions

1. Combine cornmeal, salt, sugar and cayenne.

2. Dip each slice into cornmeal mixture.

3. Fry in hot bacon fat until browned on each side. (Turn only once.)
