Maggie Mimms' Bread
At the 2009 Mimms Family Reunion this recipe was donated by Jill Moudy to be auctioned with 4 loaves of bread. Mom bought the recipe alone for $70.
ingredients
- 12 c. flour
- 2 Tbsp. yeast
- 2 c. milk
- 3 c. water total
- 2/3 c. oil
- 2/3 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. salt

Dissolve yeast in 1 c. warm water.

Scald milk.

In a large bowl, mix 2 c. cold water, oil, sugar and salt. Add warm milk, then yeast mixture. Stir well.

Gradually add about 12 cups flour.

Let rise for one hour.

Shape into 4 French loaves or rolls. Let rise about 45 minutes.

Bake at 400 until brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
notes
If cutting hot bread, use an electric knife to avoid making the bread gummy.
