Faye's Mother's Coleslaw
ingredients
- One pkg tri-colored coleslaw mix
- Two pkgs angel hair coleslaw mix
- 1 bunch green onions chopped
- 3 pkgs Ramen noodles (any flavor)
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
- 1 stick butter, melted
- 1/2 cup canola oil (I use less)
- 3/4 cup white vinegar (I use more like 1 cup)
- 3/4 cup sugar
directions
- 1
Step One (the cabbage)
- 2
One package tri-colored coleslaw
- 3
Two packages angel hair coleslaw
- 4
1 bunch green onions chopped
- 5
Step Two (the noodles)
- 6
3 packages of ramen noodles, any flavor (I use 2 chicken and 1 beef) broken apart
- 7
1/2 cup sliced almonds (I probably use a little more)
- 8
1 stick of butter melted
- 9
Stir season packets from ramen noodles into melted butter
- 10
Toss noodles and almonds with butter mixture, put on cookie sheet lined with foil, put under broiler and brown however you like them, stirring frequently. DO NOT do anything other than stand there and watch this because it burns very easily. Been there, done that!!
- 11
After it cools, put in container and set aside until ready to eat.
- 12
Step Three (the dressing)
- 13
In saucepan mix 1/2 cup oil, 3/4 cup sugar and 3/4 cup of white vinegar.
- 14
Bring to boil, cool, pour into jar, seal and set aside until ready to eat.
- 15
Step Four (the eating)
- 16
The beauty of this recipe is that you can mix up only what you want for that meal and mix more of it later for another meal. The noodles get soggy if you mix it up too far ahead of time.
notes
Faye gave me this recipe of her mother's and everytime I fix it, I get compliments.
