This is the recipe we grew up with in Cedar Rapids
ingredients
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/2 cups flour
directions
- 1
Mix together the flour, salt, and baking powder.
- 2
Make a well in the flour mixture and add the milk and beaten eggs.
- 3
Mix until all the flour is absorbed and you have a moist dough.
- 4
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- 5
Add the dough to the water a teaspoon at a time until all the dough is used.
- 6
Simmer until all the dumplings come to the top and finish cooking, about 5-7 minutes.
- 7
Drain the water off the dumplings, then add to the drippings of a pork roast.
notes
Make sure your water remains at a rolling boil. Be sure to dip your spoon into the hot water before dipping into dumpling dough to prevents the dough from sticking to the spoon.
