Chocolate Chip Cookies
The ultimate soft cookie recipe. These cookies are always welcome anytime by adults and kids alike. Mix with a spoon instead of an electric mixer to create bumpier cookies.
ingredients
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 cup (stick) butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour*
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup coarsely chopped nuts (optional)
- 1 pkg (2 cups) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Heat oven to 375 degrees

Mix sugars, vanilla extract, butter and egg in large bowl. Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt (dough will be stiff). Stir in nuts and chocolate chips.

Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown (centers will be soft). Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet. Cool on wire rack.
notes
* if using self-rising flour, omit baking soda and salt For a lighter cookie, use 3/4 cup margarine and omit nuts
