French Onion Soup

Makes 6 to 8 servings

ingredients

  • 4 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 tbl margarine
  • 4 – 10 1/2 oz beef broth
  • 1/2 cup dry sherry
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • dash of pepper
  • 6 slices French bread, toasted
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 6 slices Gruyere cheese (Swiss may be substituted)

directions

In large saucepan, cook onion in margarine until tender about 20 min. Add beef broth, sherry, Worcestershire sauce and pepper, bring to a boil. Pour into 6 individual casseroles. Float a slice of French bread in each, sprinkle generously with Parmesan. Top each with a slice of Gruyere cheese, bake in 375 oven 15 to 20 min.
