Baked Apple French Toast

ingredients
- 1 loaf of thick cut “Texas toast” or 16 finger rolls or hot dog rolls
- 8 eggs
- 3 cups milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 4 Granny smith or MacIntosh apples
- 1 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 2 Tbsp. butter

1. Preheat oven to 400 F.

2. Place bread tightly together in greased 9 x 13 pan (2 layers of rolls).

3. Mix eggs, milk, vanilla and 1/4 cup sugar.

4. Pour 1/2 liquid over bread; (second layer bread, pour).

5. Layer with sliced apples.

6. Pour other 1/2 liquid over apples.

7. Mix remaining sugar, cinnamon & nutmeg; sift over top.

8. Dot with batter and bake 35 minutes (50 if refrigerated).

9. Serve with maple syrup.
