Christmas Morning Grits and Sausage Casserole

Hands down favorite for Christmas morning Brunch before we open presents. Great served with fresh fruit and homemade cinnamon rolls.

ingredients

  • 1 pound mild ground pork sausage
  • 1 pound hot ground pork sausage
  • 1 1/2 cup quick cooking grits
  • 1 pound shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk (sometimes I use half and half)
  • 1/2 tsp. dried thyme
  • 1/8 tsp. garlic powder
  • 4 large eggs lightly beaten
  • Paprika

    Brown sausage in large skilledt stirring until it crumbles. Drain well and set aside.

    Bring 6 cups water to a boil in a large saucepan; stir in grits. Return to a boil, cover,reduce heat, and simmer 5 min, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat:add cheese and next 3 ingredients, stirring until cheese melts. Stir in Sausage and eggs.

    Spoon mixture into a lightly greased 13 X 9 X 2 inch baking dish, and sprinkle with Paprika. Bake @ 350 for 1 hour or until golden brown.

    Let stand 5 min. before serving

notes

May make the night before. Cover and refrigerate.Let stand 30 min. before baking.
