Dutch Apple Pie
I have been making this as long as I can remember.
ingredients
- Pastry for 1 crust 9" pie
- 3 lbs. tart apples (Granny Smith type)
- 1/3 c. flour
- 3/4 c. sugar
- pinch salt
- 1 c. cream
- 1/4 t. nutmeg
- 1/2 t. cinnamon
directions
Line 9" pie plate with pastry. Flute edge. Pare and core apples and slice into pie shell. Sift flour, sugar and salt togeterh. Add cream and beat ;until smooth and thick. Mix in nutmeg and cinnamon. POur over apples. Bake at 450 20-25 minutes until edge of custard begins to brown. Cover apples with foil pie plate; reduce ehat to 350 degrees and continue baking until filling thickens and becomes glossy. Better bake this pie with pan or foil underneat to catch juices. Serve warm.
