Apple Squares
ingredients
- Pastry:
- 2 1/2 Cups Flour
- 1 Tsp Salt
- 1 T Sugar
- 1 Cup Crisco
- 1 Egg Yolk
- Milk
- Filling:
- 4-5 Cups Apple Sliced
- 2 T Cornstarch
- Dash Salt
- 1 Tsp Cinnamon
- 1/4 Nutmeg
- 1 T Lemon

Preheat oven to 400°.

Sift flour, salt, and sugar in bow. Cut in Crisco with pastry blender. Combine 1 egg yolk and enough milk to make 2/3 Cup liquid. Mix with Pastry dough. Divide dough in 2 balls. Roll out the first ball to fit 9x13 pan and up the sides.

Combine apples, sugar, cornstarch, salt, cinnamon,nutmeg and lemon juice together. Roll 2 dough ball and cover apples. Pinch edges together.

Beat egg whites until stiff. Brush on top of dough.

Bake for 15 minutes at 400°. Turn heat down to 350° and bake for another 40 minutes.

Combine powdered sugar and milk. Drizzle over crust and remove from oven. When cool, cut into squares.
