ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 cups shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp vinegar

directions

  • 1

Mix together well; flour, baking powder, salt and cornstarch. Add shortening and mix by hand or with a fork until pea-sized crumbles. Set aside.

  • 2

In a 1 cup measuring cup, beat egg. To the egg add vinegar and fill up with water. Beat together again.

  • 3

Mix into dry ingredients until big ball forms. Divide into balls and flatten. (It’s easier to handle if chilled for about an hour.) Roll away...

notes

Easiest crust in the world. This recipe is from Joan's mom. It never fails. Flaky and thin. Use fresh, or it can be made ahead and chilled or frozen. Thaw to slightly cool before using. Good for pies & appetizers. It also makes great dough for turnovers.
