A Very Flavorful Lasagna

ingredients

  • 1 pound lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage meat
  • 2 large cans diced tomatoes
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 2 cans tomato paste
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 1T. dried oregano
  • 1T dried basil
  • 1t. garlic salt
  • 1t. black pepper
  • 2T. minced garlic
  • 1T. sugar
  • 1/2c. red wine
  • 1 pound cottage cheese
  • 1 cup skim milk ricotta cheese
  • 1 pound skim milk mozzarella cheese - shredded
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

    Boil lasagna according to package instructions,under cooking slightly, drain and rinse with cold water. Pat dry on tea or paper towel. Combine ground beef and sausage, add garlic, onion and spices, brown meats well. Drain meat and add tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, wine and sugar. Mix well, cover let cook for 1 hour on low heat. Combine cottage and ricotta cheeses. Lightly grease a 13“ x 9” baking pan, and arrange a layer Lasagna 4of lasagna noodles. Spread with cottage/ricotta cheese mixture, sprinkle with shredded mozzarella, spread with meat sauce,and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese. Continue layering lasagna, cheeses, and sauce in the same manner until all ingredients are used. (You may have an extra lasagna noodle or two). Bake at 350 F for 30 minutes. Let stand for 10 minutes before cutting into squares to serve.

Serve with Garlic Bread and a Salad. *You can use this sauce recipe for spaghetti too it is wonderful.
