Sweet and Sour Ribs
These ribs taste like the ones you get at chinese food restaurants.
ingredients
- 1 rack of pork spare ribs, cut into individual ribs
- 1-2 tablespoon(s) shortening
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
- 3/4 cup white vinegar
- 4 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
directions
- 1
Melt shortening in an electric skillet; brown the ribs in shortening until golden brown. Mix remaining ingredients and pour half over ribs. Cook at 350 degrees in electric skillet for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Turn ribs often, every 15-20 minutes. Pour remaining vinegar sauce over ribs for last hour of cooking.
- 2
To use oven instead of electric skillet: Brown ribs in frying pan and transfer to a 9“x13” pan or a roasting pan. Follow same instructions except cook in 400 degree oven. Cover pan with a lid or foil while baking.
notes
Have the butcher cut the ribs in half so they are short like at the restaurant.
