Ribbon Cookies

  • 1 c. butter
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 c. maraschino cherries (chopped)
  • 1/4 c. chopped pecans
  • 1 oz. melted chocolate
  • 2 T. poppy seeds

    Cream butter and sugar. Add egg, flour, vanilla, salt, and baking powder. Mix all together. Divide into three parts.

    Add cherries and nuts to one part. Add melted chocolate to second part. Add poppy seeds to third part. Mold each part into oblong loaf. Put loaves together having the chocolate part in the middle.

    Wrap in wax paper and let stand in ice box overnight. Slice and bake on greased cookie sheet for 10 to 12 minutes at 350 degrees.

    Do not use any extra flour to mold into loaves. If flour gets between layers they will not stick together.
