Granny Mia's Sou pas (soupish)

This recipe is really a taste and add this or that. There was nothing wrote down. Mia would just make it. So she would come over whenever we decided to make soupish so I could learn. It took a few times. This recipe is not exact so you will have to add and taste also. This recipe is generations old. Mia was born Nov. 12 1912 and passed away Sept. 12 2001. The pictures are Granny Mia & Sandra my mom’s youngest sister. The other is a 5 generation picture. Granny Mia, Mom Dolores, My self, my son Ricky, and his son Drew born July 10th 1991.

  • 7 pounds chuck roast

  • 5 (4oz) cans tomato sauce

  • bunches of fresh mint leaves

  • 4 tablespoons pickling spice

  • 2 whole onions

  • salt, garlic & pepper to taste

  • wine, Optional

  • Brown meat. Add tomato sauce and whole onions. Let simmer about ½ hour. Add water to cover meat. Add about hand full of mint to pot. Put pickling spice in 2 spice or tea containers and add to pot. Let cook about 3 to 4 hours till meat falls apart adding water when needed. Keep adding fresh mint to pot a little at a time. When ready to eat take all mint, onion and pickling spice out. Remove meat and shred apart replacing it back in pot after shredding. Chop onions up and put back in pot. Ladle soup over french bread slices. Enjoy
