Spaghetti (Meat) Sauce
The sauce that I’ve been making forever - from the back of a spaghetti box. I usually double the recipe. Dad (David) is very spoiled and won’t eat jarred sauce because of this.
ingredients
- 3/4 cup chopped onion
- 1 clove garlic, mashed
- 3 T salad or olive oil
- 2 cans (16 oz. each) crushed tomatoes
- 2 cans (6 oz. each) tomato paste
- 1 cup water
- 1 T sugar
- 1 1/2 t salt
- 1 1/2 t oregano
- 1/2 t pepper
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 lb. ground meat (beef or turkey) - optional
directions
In a large heavy pot, cook onion and garlic (and optional meat) in oil until crisp-tender, but not brown. Add remaining ingredients to pot and stir well. Simmer, uncovered, stirring occasionally, for at least 1 hour. Remove bay leaf. Serve over pasta.
