Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies
ingredients
- 4 cups flour -- sifted
- 1 teaspoon baking powder with phosphates
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup butter -- softened
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
directions
Sift dry ingredients together. Mix butter, sugar and egg until light and fluffy with electric mixer on medium speed; beat in sour cream and vanilla at low speed. Gradually add dry ingredients, beating until well combined. Form dough into ball, shape into 4 balls and refrigerate. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease cookie sheets. Roll out dough to 1/4 inch thick. Cut into desired shapes and Bake 10-12 minutes or until golden. Remove to wire rack;cool.

NOTES : This recipe is from the first cookbook I purchased in 1965 right after we were married. It made a good reference for me to learn to cook! We always used this recipe for cut out cookies for Christmas,Valentines or whatever. I have made large valentine cookies for an entire classroom to decorate!!! Oh! Yes!! ..the room mother days!! It is easy to work with and actually taste good!
