THE BEST FRENCH TOAST
THIS IS MY CONCOCTED RECIPE AND IT IS FABULOUS. NO SYRUP NEED. SPRINKLE WITH CONFECTIONERS SUGAR AND TOP WITH WARM BERRY COMPOTE.
ingredients
- CHALLAH BREAD
- EGGS
- MILK
- VANILLA
- GROUND CINNAMON
- JUICE FROM ORANGE
- FINE ORANGE ZEST
- ORANGE LIQUOR (OPTIONAL)
- LIGHT BUTTER FOR PAN
- CONFECTIONERS SUGAR
- BLUEBERRIES AND RASPBERRIES
- SUGAR
- FRESH LEMON JUICE(OPTIONAL)
- GARNISH WITH ORANGE SLICE

CUT CHALLAH INTO 1 INCH THICK SLICES.

PREPARE THE EGG MIXTURE USING JUST A DASH OF VANILLA AND A SMALL AMOUNT OF FRESH ORANGE JUICE, THE FINE ZEST AND CINNAMON.

PUT THE BREAD IN A LARGE BAKING DISH AND COVER WITH THE MIXTURE. TURN THE BREAD AND SPOON MORE MIXTURE ON TOP.LET THE BREAD SIT IN THE FRIDGE FOR AT LEAST 1/2 HOUR, TURNING MIDWAY.

IF DESIRED SPRINKLE A BIT MORE CINNAMON ON TOP OF EACH PIECE OF BREAD.

MEANWHILE MAKE THE COMPOTE. IN A SMALL SAUCEPAN OVER MEDIUM-LOW HEAT COOK THE BERRIES UNTIL THEY BREAK DOWN AND RELEASE THEIR JUICES. LOWER HEAT,STIR CONSTANTLY, ADD SMALL AMOUNT OF SUGAR AND TOUCH FRESH LEMON OR ORANGE JUICE. TASTE, ADD MORE SUGAR IF DESIRED.ADD A DASH OF THE GRAND MARINER .

KEEP WARM ON A VERY LOW FLAME.

OVER MEDIUM HEAT MELT THE BUTTER. COOK THE FRENCH TOAST, TURNING WHEN GOLDEN BROWN. ADD MORE BUTTER IF NEEDED.

SPRINKLE THE PLATES WITH CONFECTIONERS SUGAR AND SPOON THE WARM BERRY COMPOTE OP TOP OF THE FRENCH TOAST. GARNISH WITH PLATE WITH STRAWBERRIES AND AN ORANGE SLICE.

PREPARE ENOUGH EGG MIXTURE TO THOROUGHLY SOAK THE BREAD. THERE SHOULD BE PLENTY IN BOTTOM OF DISH.
