Healthier Candied Walnuts

This recipe is a favorite at our pot-lucks. Great for snacking while waiting for all of the guests to arrive.

ingredients

  • 1 egg white - slightly beaten
  • 1 tsp water
  • 4 c walnut halves
  • 2/3 c Splenda
  • (can use brown sugar but,it
  • increases sugar and calorie count)
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper(more if desired)
  • 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Salt to taste

    Preheat oven to 325°F. Spray cookie sheet with non stick cooking spray.

    Mix dry ingredients in a Ziploc bag, set aside.

  • 3

    In a large bowl beat egg and water, blend in nuts.

  • 4

    Add nuts to dry ingredients and toss until evenly distributed.

  • 5

    Spread nuts evenly on prepared cookie sheet and bake until golden, about 20 minutes.

  • 6

    When cool, pack in an airtight jar.

notes

For the holidays you can substitute 1/4 tsp each nutmeg and allspice for the cayenne pepper
