gin's fruit cake (hooten hollerin' whiskey cake)
not your average fruit cake. it is as dense as a brick and you may get drunk from the fumes.
ingredients
- 1/3 c butter
- 1 c sugar
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1 c flour
- 1/2 t baking powder
- 1/4 t salt
- 1/2 t nutmeg
- 1/4 c milk
- 1/4 c molasses
- 1/4 t baking soda
- 1 lb raisins (1/2 light & 1/2 dark)
- 2 c nuts, chopped (pecans if you got ’em)
- 1/4 c bourbon
directions

cream butter & sugar. add eggs. sift flour with powder, salt & nutmeg - add to creamed mixture.

add milk. put soda in molasses - add. mix in raisins, nuts & whiskey.

pour into greased & floured loaf pan.

bake at 300° for 2 hours.

wrap in whiskey soaked cloth and heavy foil.

age in refrigerator, moistening cloth occasionally. keeps well.
