Apple and Cranberry Crisp
ingredients
Apple Mixture- 6 cups firm apples peeled, cored and cut into 1/2 dice
- 1 tbsp lemon or orange juice
- 1-2 cups fresh whole cranberries (optional)
- 1/2 cup sugar (use only 2 tbsp if cranberries are omitted)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp orange zest
- 3 tbsp flour
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1/2 cup cold butter
- 3/4 cup oats
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F

Mix all ingredients for the apple mixture in a bowl. Let sit until sugar dissolves and mixture is moist, about 10 minutes.

Place all crisp topping ingredients in a bowl, mix together until butter combines and mixture forms crumbs.

Place apple cranberry mixture in a buttered (or use cooking spray) 9" square baking dish or 6-8 8oz. ramekins or deep gratin dishes.

Top the apple cranberry mix evenly with the crisp topping.

Bake for 45-50 minutes until apples are tender and bubble and topping is firm.

Bake smaller size ramekins for about 30-35 minutes on a baking sheet.

Best when served with vanilla ice cream or fresh whipped cream.
notes
Use firm baking apples such as Gala, Braeburn, Granny Smith, Northern Spy or Cortland.
