Apple - Cheese Bavarian Torte
A sweet and delicious treat...a real crowd pleaser. Enjoy every bite!
ingredients
- VANILLA CRUST:
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1/3 cup of sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) well-chilled butter, cut into small pieces
- CREAM CHEESE FILLING:
- 2 8-ounce packages of cream cheese, room temperature
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 eggs, room temperature
- APPLE TOPPING:
- 2 large tart green apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/3 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

FOR CRUST:

Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine flour, sugar, and vanilla in medium bowl. Cut in butter using pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse meal. Press into bottom and sides of 10-inch springform pan. Bake until golden, about 5 minutes. Cool to room temperature. Increase oven temperature to 450°F.

Beat cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla with electric mixer until smooth. Beat in eggs 1 at a time. Spoon into crust.

FOR TOPPING:

Mix sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla. Spoon over cream cheese layer, spreading evenly. Then lay apple slices on top (layering them as you go). Sprinkle with walnuts. Bake 15 minutes. Reduce over temperature to 350°F. Continue baking until tester (toothpick or wooden stick) inserted in center comes out clean, about 45 minutes. Cool torte completely in pan on a rack (on kitchen counter). Refrigerate. Let stand at room temperature 30 minutes before serving.
