Gingersnaps
ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup molasses
- 2 cups flour
- 1/4 cup coarse white or colored sanding sugar

Beat butter and shortening with mixer at high speed for 30 seconds. Add in sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves and salt. Beat until combined occasionally scraping the sides of the bowl. Beat in egg and molasses. Beat in as much of the flour as possible stirring in the remainder using a wooden spoon. Wrap in plastic and chill for 2 hours or until easy to handle.

Preheat oven 350°. Shape dough into 1" balls and roll in coarse sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake 10 minutes or until tops are cracked and edges are cracked.
