Fruit Crisp

The most delicious way to eat cooked fruit

ingredients

  • 5 c. sliced, peeled cooking apples, pears, peaches, or apricots, or frozen unsweetened peach slices
  • 2 to 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 c. regular rolled oats
  • 1/2 c. packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg, ginger, or cinnamon
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1/4 c. chopped nuts or coconut

Prepare filling

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

    Thaw fruit, if frozen. Do not drain. Place fruit in a 2-quart square baking dish. Stir in sugar.

Prepare topping

In a medium bowl combine the oats, brown sugar, flour, and nutmeg, ginger, or cinnamon. Cut in butter til mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the nuts or coconut. Sprinkle topping over filling.

Bake fruit crisp

Bake crisp for 30 to 35 minutes 940 minutes for thawed fruit) or til fruit is tender and topping is golden. If desired serve warm with ice cream.

When I used to do research at the Library of Congress, I would go have coffee and fruit crisp at a small restaurant near the building Donna worked in. I wanted their exact recipe but have since done my own replicating.
