Savory Sandwich Ring

A favorite from Pampered Chef. The whole house will smell wonderful with this Italian bread. Always a crowd pleaser.

ingredients

  • 2 packages (11 oz.) refrigerated French bread dough
  • 3 garlic cloves, pressed
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil leaves
  • 2 c. lettuce, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium green pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium tomato, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 c. pitted ripe sliced olives
  • 8 oz. deli meat, such as hard salami, ham or bologna
  • 4 oz. thinly sliced cheese, such as Swiss, American or Muenster
  • 6 T. Italian dressing, divided

directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place dough, seams down, on round baking stone or pizza pan. Join ends of dough together to form one large ring. Using serrated knife, cut 8 diagonal slashes (1/2” deep) on top of dough. Lightly brush or spray with vegetable oil. Press garlic over dough and spread with spatula. Sprinkle with oregano and basil. Bake 26 to 30 minutes or until deep golden brown. Immediately remove from stone or pan and cool completely on wire rack. To assemble sandwich, cut bread in half horizontally with serrated knife. Arrange meat and cheese evenly over bottom half of bread. Top with lettuce and drizzle 2 teaspoons dressing over it. Top with onion, bell pepper, tomato and olive slices. Brush cut side of bread top with remaining dressing & place over bottom half. Cut into 8 wedges and serve.
