Aunt Sharon's Layered Finger Jello

KammyKammy

I am 100% positive that a vote of my children would place this recipe in the #1 spot over every other one in this book. I admit I’ve never made it - I’ve never had to, Sharon knows to bring it to every family gathering!

ingredients

  • 4 3-oz pkgs of different colored jello (Sharon used red, green, yellow & orange)
  • 6 envelopes Knox gelatin
  • 5 cups boiling water
  • 1 can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk

directions

  • 1

    Colored Layer Mixtures:

  • 2

In 4 separate bowls, mix the following in each until well dissolved and let it cool to room temperature.

  • 3

    1 3-oz jello package

  • 4

    1 envelope Knox gelatin

  • 5

    1 cup boiling water

  • 6

    White Layer Mixture:

  • 7

In another bowl, dissolve 2 envelopes Knox gelatin in 1/4 cup cold water. Add 3/4 cup boiling water. In another bowl, combine 1 can condensed milk and 1 cup boiling water. Combine the 2 bowls and let it cool to room temperature. Divide this mixture into equal measure in 3 bowls. This will give you enough for 3 white layers of jello.

Layering Jello: You may layer the jello in any order you desire; however, you might choose to follow this example: Green - White - Yellow - White - Orange - White - Red .

  • 9

To achieve this, first pour the green jello in a 9 x 13 pan. Refrigerate for 10-15 minutes (until hardened). Then add the white jello on top of the green. Refrigerate for 15 minutes. The white layer takes a little longer to harden. Keep alternating the milk layer with the colored layers, refrigerating for 10-15 minutes between each new layer.

  • 10

NOTE BE SURE THAT: (1) The jello is hardened before adding another layer. (2) The liquide jello is COMPLETELY COOL before putting it on top of the other layers. Do this by pouring the jello into the container carefully with a large spoon. You want to be sure that it doesn’t melt the other layers and blend together. On the other hand, if the jello sets before you are ready to pour the next layer, it’s a good idea to soften it first as it will be difficult to layer.
