Sick People Soup
My mom used to make this for us whenever we were sicky - it loaded with good stuff to make you feel better as well as pepper to make your nose run and sweat out the fever. Well that’s what she said anyway.
ingredients
- 1 whole chicken cut up and cleaned with lemon and seasoned.
- 1 cup of yellow split peas (dhal)
- 1 cup sliced carrots
- 1 cup sliced celery
- 1 cup sliced potatoes
- 1 onion sliced
- 1 head of garlic crushed
- fresh herbs to flavour - i like thyme and coriander, about 1/2 cups worth.
- 6 cups of water or half the pot
- 2-3 stock cubes, preferably Maggi
- 1 scotch bonnet pepper
directions

1. season chicken well with S&P, and green seasoning.

2. Use a large pot and med-low heat -saute onions, garlic, celery and carrots.

3. when soft, add water split peas and stock cubes and let simmer for about 15-20 minutes. Stir intermittently as peas will thicken the soup. Add water if neccesary.

4. add the chicken parts and half of the herbs

5. Drop in pepper

6. Cover and let

7, boilStir intermittently to keep from sticking, you may find you need to add more water - this is fine.
